It was a pretty great experience to play at Allen’s Golf Course in Redding, California. I woke up at 6 AM and left from my lodge at the Tsasdi Resort to go to Redding. I got to the tee box with a club in hand at about 7:15 AM.
Course Description: This wasn’t an 18 hole course, I soon found out. I played 18 holes thinking there were 18 holes. But after the 9th I asked the lady at the counter where the rest of the course was, and she said you have to play the same nine holes at different tee boxes. The course wasn’t very challenging, the greens were just circles of turf. The course was mainly flat, so not much of a challenge there. Sad, but I still enjoyed the experience.
Landscape: The ground wasn’t the best maintained. The grass had some weed or plantation that well, wasn’t grass. The “fairway” near the green had hard, rocky dirt which was hard to hit off of. Some parts were “sloshy” and muddy. It was gross to have to plant your feet firm in that area and hit the ball.
My experience: I was playing on a course for the first time after Jeff Johson’s private lesson, and I hit really well. Obviously, my first hole sucked. But after that, each hole was either a bogey or par, I got a birdie, which was pretty cool. It was a so-so day, but I was glad not because of my score, but because I was able to scoop the ball extremely well, and I was able to hit the ball in the air no problem. My final score was a +17, which for this course, is terrible. I was still working on some things, so it doesn’t matter. I just wanted to have some fun on this course, which I definetely did.
Overall Re-cap: Although a few bad things here and there, it was a great place to just play some golf. The course couldn’t frustrate the most high-temepered golfer, even if it tried. It was fun to play, and I had a blast. I wish they had 18 holes, but I guess not.
That is it for today, I should have another Question of the Week up shortly.
